Not a bad way to spend a few hours on a rainy
afternoon, though not ground breaking stuff by any stretch of the
imagination. We see an assassination attempt on US president Ashton
(William Hurt) on a visit to Spain, from eight different
perspectives. Being looked after by FBI agent Tom Barnes (Dennis
Quaid) who had the year before taken a bullet for the president during
a previous attempt on his life, Tom is going to once again play an
important part in what is about to take place. In the square on the
day of the president's speech is tourist Howard Lewis (Forest
Whittaker) filming the unfolding events on his camera, and TV producer
Rex Brooks (Sigourney Weaver) who is overseeing news coverage in a
mobile unit, along with a host of other people who will all play a
part in the day’s proceedings.
It's put together reasonably well with a few
unexpected twists and turns along the way, an exciting car chase near
the end of the film, and quite clever in its own way. My main
criticism is the continual repetition of some of the scenes when each
perspective is shown, it just became a bit tiresome, and sadly it was
the usual gung-ho American nonsense at the end, though that was always
going to happen. |

A strong cast and you feel
some of them are a tad wasted in this, but it's a definite DVD watch and
worth winkling out on release, a little above average drama/thriller that
keeps you interested from start to finish and a perfect film for a
Saturday night in with a few glasses of vino.
In a word -
"Entertaining".
