(Brian Cox)
is trying to take control of Greece and all surrounding countries. Amongst his army is the
great warrior
Achilles
(Brad Pitt). Achilles'
mother and father are gods and
it seems that he cannot be killed.
When
two Trojan princes, Paris
(Orlando Bloom)
and
his brother
Hector
(Eric Bana)
visit
one of the Greek kings,
Menelaus (Brendan Gleeson),
it
transpires that Paris is having an affair with the king’s wife,
Helen
(Diane Kruger). When the time comes for the two princes to return to Troy, Helen agrees to
go back to Troy with Paris. This starts a
great
war between the two countries, Greece and Troy. King Menelaus calls on the help of his powerful brother Agamemnon.
Review

Set in ancient Greece this epic
production tells the story of the battle of Troy and the tale of the
Trojan Horse. There is plenty of eye candy in
this film for the ladies and plenty of battle scenes and action for the
gents. Brad Pitt looks every inch the “Greek god” with his long blonde
hair and if you’re not a Brad fan you can take your pick from Orlando
Bloom, Eric
Bana and Sean Bean.
The film is
shot very well, I would suggest seeing it in the cinema if possible as
otherwise you will miss out on the fantastic battle scenes and the sheer
number of warriors used to make the film. However it has to be said that the battle scenes are not as good as those
in the 'Lord Of The Rings' movies.
As far as I know the
plot is a fairly accurate depiction of the original story. What is original and unusual about the film is that you
can relate very well to both sides of the battle and their reasons for
fighting. It shows how pointless war is and the many different reasons
there are for going to war. It also covers three love stories so it’s not
all blood and guts! It's probably fair to say that the film
would have benefited from a bit of humour in the quieter moment between
the action scenes.
The
Bottom Line: A man’s film which holds
appeal for the ladies. If you
enjoyed films such as Gladiator,
The
Patriot or Braveheart you will enjoy this film.
