When the Secret Service agents who protect
the President of the USA discover that there is a "mole" in their ranks

suspicion points to highly respected veteran agent Pete Garrison (Michael
Douglas). His one time friend and now sworn enemy, David
Breckinridge (Kiefer Sutherland), is determined to prove that Garrison is
their man while Garrison protests his innocence...

Starting with an insight of the detailed
security measures taken by Secret Service personnel protecting the
President The Sentinel starts off well enough and looks
fairly promising but before too long a feeling of been-here-before
starts to creep in, and sure enough The Sentinel tells a somewhat
predictable, cliché ridden story. It unfolds in a very
straightforward manner with no real surprises or twists which leaves the
film without the intrigue or tension required for a good thriller.
This lack of tension is most noticeably towards the end of the film when things
should be reaching a climax. The Sentinel is in desperate
need of some intrigue to grab the attention of the audience and shake off
that distinct "TV Movie" feeling.
The strong cast in the film don't really
help to lift this film out of the ordinary.
Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland play the main characters and I can
only say that they performances are solid, adequate, but uninspiring.
Others like Eva Longoria and Kim Basinger (who plays the 1st Lady) are
under used.

The Bottom Line:
A weak effort that I believe most viewers will have forgotten a few days
later and will probably find it difficult to recall the film's title.
