Review
Neither an explanation of The Matrix (The
first “Matrix” movie) nor introductions to the characters are given.
So make sure you have seen the first film if you decide to go along to
this one. If it has been a while, watch The Matrix again before you
see The Matrix Reloaded if you want to understand what’s going
on!
Whereas The Matrix was a
science fiction movie, this is more like an action movie. Therefore, the
characters are not developed much and little can be said on the acting in
roles that have little substance. Interesting science fiction and original
ideas given in the first movie are not matched again here. The ideas have
not even been really developed further in this movie. Do not expect the
intrigue of the Matrix idea nor the clever twists in the story that made The
Matrix so popular.
The makers of this movie have obviously
concentrated on maintaining the high standard of the impressive special
effects we saw in the first movie and increasing the action scenes.
In this endeavour they have without a doubt succeeded! For those
who like watching action movies, this movie is definitely for you. You
will enjoy fast and varied car chases and fights scenes. Agent Smith (Hugo
Weaving) reappears in fine fighting form. Also, other “baddy” characters provide interesting
talents of their own to add to the action. Celebrations in the city of
Zion are crazy and amusing.
Unfortunately, for this viewer,
action and special effects don’t make up for lack of good plot and
interesting science fiction. A very disappointing ending, which is
obviously leaving plenty of room for The Matrix Reloaded Again, did not
help.
Bottom Line: Action/Special Effects lovers will enjoy
this. Make sure you’ve seen The Matrix before you see this one.
