Plot Summary

|
YEE HAW! The General Lee rides
again... that being Luke (Johnny Knoxville) and Bo (Seann William Scott) Duke's 1969 orange Dodge Charger. Yes the
'good old boys' from Hazzard County are back dodging the law as they make
their deliveries of moonshine to the good folk of the county. They live a
lazy life of chasin' girls and drinkin' beer at The Boar's Nest where
their cousin Daisy (Jessica Simpson) waits tables.
The boys discover that the
crooked commissioner, Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds), is trying to seize the
family farm in order to turn it into a coal mine but with the help of
Daisy and Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson) the boys take on Hogg and his
cronies...

Based on the popular television
series that ran in the early 80's this movie doesn't have any more plot
that one of the TV episodes which means that there is little or no plot!
Not much effort is made to beef up the story for The Duke's first big
screen appearance. It might be fun to revisit the Dukes but before long
the feeling of been-there-done-that creeps in. It has the feel of an
extended TV episode with a few more car chases throw in for good measure.
Unfortunately, for those who remember The Dukes Of Hazzard, you
will begin to wonder if the car chases were always this unrealistic and
the humour so silly!
Things have changed over the
years and audiences are more sophisticated. Expectations are high and
while the antics of the Bo and Luke might generate a few laughs the humour
is a little silly and gets tiresome before too long.
Improved special effects have
upped the stakes and unrealistic car chases will only disappoint audiences
who have come to expect slick and stylish action scenes. Movies like
Gone in 60
Seconds or
The Fast And The Furious have specialised in the car chase and leave
the Dukes standing!
Bottom Line: Not
much of a plot, a few laughs, plenty of car chases and a lot of silliness.
Over 15's will not be impressed unless they really love loads of car
chases. Gives the feeling that this type of thing has had its day.
