Sweet November

Main Cast:

  • Keanu Reeves is Nelson Moss
  • Charlize Theron is Sara Deever

Director:  Pat O Connor

Rating: 1 Star - not worth the time.

Plot Summary: Nelson Moss (Keanu Reeves) is a successful workaholic advertising executive.  His busy schedule leaves no time for anything other than work, least of all time for relationships.  Things take a turn for the worse for Nelson when he is fired from his job and his girlfriend leaves him.  At the same time he meets unconventional Sara Deever (Charlize Theron).  She suggests to Nelson that he can be her “November” and that she can, during this one brief month together, show Nelson what is missing from his empty life.  So begins a very unusual relationship…

Review: Sara harasses Nelson Moss who is practically a stranger, tells him that he is unhappy and that she can help him and that he can move into her apartment for one month.  Nelson finds himself strangely attracted to Sara and decides to accept her offer of help.  He leaves his life behind and moves in!  This story is so silly and unbelievable that it is hard to relate to the characters or get truly interested in the story. This is a romantic comedy story where the romance is contrived and artificial, the comedy lacking and the story silly and predictable.

There’s little or no chemistry between Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves appears awkward and uncomfortable in his role.  It would be interesting to see Charlize Theron working with better material, as we haven’t seen the best of her. She played a much more convincing character in The Cider House Rules

Lasting thought: "Quality of Life" is never more important that when time is running out.
