Plot Summary: This computer-animated film tells the story of Shrek the Ugly Green Ogre that lives in a swamp.  The story begins when Shrek’s life is disrupted when all the “Fairytale Creatures”, are rounded up by nasty Lord Farquaad and forced to live in the swamp.  The “Fairytale Creatures” include such characters as Snowwhite and the seven dwarfs, the three blind mice, the three bears and many more.  Shrek makes a deal with Farquaad that if he rescues the beautiful princess Fiona from the fire-breathing dragon the “Fairytale Creatures” must leave his swamp.  So Shrek heads off with his new friend “Donkey” to rescue the princess…

Review: Plenty of laughs for kids and adults in this entertaining computer generated animated comedy.  The graphics are excellent and in particular the facial expressions of the characters are very realistic.  The voices of the characters are also done very well and help bring the characters to life.  There are plenty of jokes that younger children will not understand but adults will enjoy.  There is a wicked humour in the film that pokes fun at Disney and at “happy-ever-after” fairytales.  The shortness of the film will prevent any little children from becoming bored and restless but I would have liked another 20 minutes.

Eddie Murphy did the voice of the talking Donkey and in most scenes the Donkey stole the show with the best and funniest lines in the film.

Overall a very clever, funny, entertaining film that is well worth seeing even if it is not as good as some of the classics that it pokes fun at!

Lasting thought:  Don’t judge a person by his/her appearance.
