Rock Star Main Cast:
Director: Stephen Herek Rating: 3 Stars - worth a watch. Plot Summary: Chris Cole is the lead singer of heavy metal band Blood Pollution. The band is a tribute band to Steel Dragon. Chris copies every detail about his idols and when Blood Pollution go on stage they look and sound exactly like Steel Dragon. Eventually Chris’ obsession with every minute detail causes a rift between him and the other members of the band. When they tell him that he is taking it too seriously Chris leaves them. But then Chris’ life changes when he gets a call from Steel Dragon and he is asked to go and see them. He flies out with his girlfriend Emily (Jennifer Aniston)… Review: This film takes a look behind the scenes of an 80’s heavy metal band. Loud music, screaming crowds, drink, drugs, groupies and sex all build up the images of this surreal lifestyle. All the Rock ‘n’ Roll clichés are here and there is little more to the film than this but the story is told in an entertaining way and it is interesting to see how the main characters, Chris and Emily, struggle in coping with the dramatic changes in their lives. There are also plenty of funny scenes that help the entertainment value. There are some very good authentic “concert scenes” with blaring sound, impressive stages and screaming audiences. Apparently to film these scenes a real concert was held in which about 10,000 people attended. Mark Wahlberg is very convincing as the young impressionable "would be Rock Star" and when he is on stage with long greasy hair, leather jacket and trousers, screaming his lungs out, he really could be the singer of a heavy metal band! Jennifer Aniston’s character, Emily, is slightly more level-headed than her boyfriend. I initially thought that she had been miscast in the role but as the story moves along her less impressionable character makes sense. If you enjoyed Almost Famous you might enjoy this one. Lasting thought: If you’re lucky enough to fulfil your dream you might find that it wasn’t what you wanted after all! Be careful what you wish for as it might happen!
