Plot Summary: Danny Ocean (George Clooney) has just been released from prison on parole but he is already planning his next robbery. He meets up with his friend Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) to tell him of his daring plans to rob, not one, but three Las Vegas casinos. The casinos are all owned by Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) and they share the same high security vault. It transpires that this is not only about money and that Danny Ocean also has personal reasons for wanting to rob Terry Benedict…

Review: This old-fashioned robbery heist movie is a remake of the movie that starred Hollywood’s “Rat Pack” which included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jnr. Now we have a new generation of stars in George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, Matt Damon and Julia Roberts; all of which demand huge amounts of money for their movies but had to cut their fees as there was so many top names together. With some remakes you would wonder why they bothered but in this case the remake is more engaging and entertaining than the original.

The first part of the movie sees Danny Ocean and Rusty Ryan assemble the gang, then the planning takes place and finally the robbery itself. The story moves along at a good steady pace and while it may not be action packed or explosive it never slows down to become boring.  The exciting backdrop of Las Vegas and a World Heavyweight Champion fight between Lennox Lewis against Russian boxer Vladimir Klitschko also make it interesting.

There are a few holes in the plot and some of the robbery plans rely heavily on good luck but this can be overlooked!

The characters also help to make this an entertaining movie especially Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) who have a relaxed and funny banter between them.  They come across as actually being friends.  Andy Garcia is very convincing as the ice cool, dangerous, casino owner Terry Benedict; not someone to be meddled with!  Matt Damon also puts in a good performance as Linus the master pickpocket.  Julia Roberts played Tess but perhaps was a little under used and didn’t “command” the screen as she normally would.

The Bottom Line: Ocean’s Eleven is a slick entertaining heist movie with a sharp dialogue and great cast. Well worth watching.
