Director: Donald Petrie Rating: 3 STARS - WORTH A WATCH. Plot Summary: Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) is an FBI agent and a real tomboy. She has no interest in clothes, makeup, getting her hair done or looking “nice”. After the notorious criminal “The Citizen” threatens the Miss USA competition Gracie must go undercover as one of the contestants. Professional beauty pageant consultant, Victor (Michael Caine) is given the job of changing Gracie from tomboy to beauty. His job isn’t helped by his reluctant pupil who would prefer to be out chasing down bad guys instead of having her eyebrows plucked. After a major makeover and a lot of hard work Gracie is Miss New Jersey. She joins the other contestants… Review: This is basically an inoffensive, feel-good, situation comedy. The humour isn’t sharp or clever and there is even a slapstick element to the humour. It is never hilarious but it's continually funny. There isn’t much of a story and yet this movie will win you over with its simple light-hearted entertaining way. The movie doesn’t pretend or try to be anything more than a bright, light-hearted piece of entertainment and in this regard the film succeeds. Unlike many actors and actresses that venture into comedy Sandra Bullock looks comfortable in her role and is actually very funny. She really looks like she is enjoying the character and adds the charm that is needed to take this film out of the ordinary. Michael Caine as you would expect played his part well and had some of funniest parts along side Sandra Bullock. William Shatner (Captain Kirk to many of us) also deserves a mention, as he was very funny as the flamboyant compere Stan Field. Reviewed by Niall Quinn, Premier Movie Reviews.
