Plot Summary:  Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) is a pampered, Beverly Hills, dizzy blonde.  She is the president of her college sorority, loved by all who know her and she expects to be proposed to by the man she loves.  But instead of proposing, her boyfriend, Warner Huntington lll (Matthew Davis), dumps her.  He tells her that she is not “serious” enough for him.  Blondes might have more fun but he is going to Harvard Law School after college and he needs a “serious” girlfriend to fit in with the family image!  Warner tells Elle that he needs a “Jackie” not a “Marilyn”!  Elle is devastated and decides that the only way to win Warner back is to study hard and follow him to Harvard.  She is accepted to Harvard but soon finds herself struggling to make friends and keep up with the studies…

Review:  This simple easy-going comedy is silly and predictable but surprisingly entertaining.  The movie has a well-used formula and there is nothing in it that you haven’t seen before.  The finale, which is set in the courtroom with a murder case, is a bit lame and the opportunity to introduce a little drama was lost.  But in spite of its many faults this movie has a certain charm that makes it hard not to enjoy.  It is an inoffensive, light-hearted, “fun” movie that delivers plenty of laughs.

Reese Witherspoon does to Legally Blonde what Sandra Bullock did to Miss Congeniality.  That is, she gives a bright bubbly performance that saves the movie from mediocrity.  This is really Reese Witherspoon’s movie and she shines in all of her scenes.

Matthew Davis is good as the wealthy, arrogant, snobbish Warner Huntington lll (well what would you expect with a name like that!)

Selma Blair plays Warner’s new girlfriend Vivian Kensington.  Unfortunately her character changes towards the end of the movie and once this happens her part becomes insignificant.  Vivian starts off by being cold and spiteful towards Elle but then mellows.  She is far more interesting when she is mean and nasty!

Luke Wilson’s role as Emmett, a qualified lawyer who helps Elle, does not allow him to make much of an impact.

Lasting thought:  We can do whatever we want if we have faith in ourselves.
