Plot Summary
Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon)
has graduated from Harvard Law School.
At the firm where she works she thinks that she is up for promotion
but instead gets the sack! She
is distraught but it’s not long before the perky lawyer finds a new
cause to fight for when she discovers that the mother of “Bruiser”,
her pet Chihuahua, is in a cosmetics animal-testing laboratory.
She goes on a mission to Washington to introduce a bill to ban
animal testing.
Elle
is like a fish-out-of-water when she arrives in Washington and finds it
difficult to get Congress to take her seriously.
Not knowing how the system works doesn’t help and she’s going
to have to hit the books if she wants to change the law.
She hooks up with congresswoman Victoria Rudd (Sally Field) who
agrees to help her…
Review
Elle Wood, the ever positive,
ever smiling, young dizzy lawyer, is back.
She is still as pink ‘n’ fluffy as she was before but is she as
funny? Does the sequel have the charm and feel good humour of the
original, Legally Blonde? Unfortunately
not only is the charm gone but also the humour. This is one of the most unfunny comedies I’ve seen in a
long time! In fact, not only
is it unfunny but also there are several “cringe moments” which had me
embarrassed for all concerned!
Legally Blonde 2 is basically
an uninspired rehash of the original.
All the dizzy-blonde jokes are transferred from Harvard Law School
(the setting for the first movie) to Washington.
Reese Witherspoon (Sweet Home Alabama,
Legally Blonde) plays Elle Woods.
The natural charm and humour that she brought to Legally Blonde
helped to make it a success but without the funny lines and scenes in this
sequel it is difficult to shine. She
is too good for this nonsense! As
is Sally Field who plays Congresswoman Rudd who helps Elle when she comes
to Washington. Luke Wilson plays Elle’s boyfriend and former Harvard
tutor, Emmett.
Bottom
Line: I don’t think anyone involved in this movie should, or will,
be particularly proud of it.
