Plot Summary

Daniel Rafferty (Pierce Brosnan) and
Audrey Woods (Julianne Moore) are two competitive, first class, New York
divorce attorneys. They battle it out in the court room, each
fighting furiously on their clients' behalf. In spite of their
obvious differences, and Audrey's fear of relationships, an attraction
develops between them. Denying her feelings, Audrey is more
comfortable hating Rafferty and continues to clash with him whenever they
meet...
Review

This movie is easily categorised in
the light-weight, frivolous romantic comedy section! It is the type
of movie whose title will elude you a few weeks after seeing it.
Pleasant, predictable and forgettable. Boy meets girl - she hates
him - likes him - hates him again - likes him again - hates him - loves
him! Besides the relationship part of the story there isn't much
else happening. There's a bit of a subplot surrounding the divorce
of a rock star and his fashion designer wife but this is only a filler and
things get a little silly and clichéd when the big city attorneys
unnecessarily travel to rural Ireland on behalf of their clients.
In the absence of a good story the
movie really needed some big laughs and while the movie is amusing, the
big laughs are missing.
The characters are amiable and
Pierce Brosnan shows that he can definitely play many different roles.
Unlike his suave James Bond role this time he is a clever but somewhat
sloppy middle-aged bachelor. I'm not sure that there was enough
chemistry between himself and Julianne Moore. The relationship
between the characters wasn't completely convincing. Perhaps the
funniest character was Audrey's mother played by Frances Fisher. She
spends all her time trying to look younger and forbids
Audrey from calling her 'mother' in public!
If you enjoyed movies like
Two Weeks Notice,
Sweet Home Alabama, or
Maid In Manhattan you might enjoy this one.
The Bottom Line: Pleasant romantic comedy but nothing special.
