How
To Lose A Guy In 10 Days
|
Plot Summary
Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) is
a columnist for a woman’s magazine. She would love to be taken seriously
as a journalist but always ends up getting trivial issues to write about.
Her latest article is “How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days”. In order to
write the article, her “project” consists of meeting up with a guy and
over the next 10 days she has to do all the “girlie” things that will
have him screaming for bachelorhood.
Meanwhile,
Benjamin (Matthew McConaughey), an advertising executive is trying to take
on of his company’s new diamond account. His colleagues tell him that,
as a man, he doesn't know what women want and therefore wouldn’t be able
to market the diamonds. His boss sets him a task; if he can meet up with a
girl and get her to fall in love with him he can have the new account.
Coincidently he also has 10 days to do this and coincidently Ben and Andie
meet up, both with their hidden agendas.
Review
There never seems to be a
shortage of romantic comedies and this movie is very much in the
light-hearted rom-com genre. Just Married,
Two Weeks Notice,
and Sweet Home Alabama
are recent, similar type, movies that fell into the
“Only-If-You-Have-Nothing-Better-To-Do” category.
Like these movies How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days has a silly
unbelievable plot but unlike the others it is very funny! There are plenty
of laughs throughout the movie and while it does get a bit corny it parts
it avoids the schmaltzy, slushy pitfalls that some rom-coms seem to wallow
in!
The main characters Ben and
Andie are quite likeable and they actually look good together even though
they are using each other to get something they desperately want. Matthew
McConaughey and Kate Hudson appear comfortable and at ease with each
other. Kate Hudson, as well as being attractive, has an endearing quality
about her that belongs in these implausible but entertaining movies.
The
Bottom Line: There isn’t any new
ground being broken here but it a funny, entertaining, enjoyable movie. If
you enjoyed Miss Congeniality
and Legally Blonde
you should enjoy this one
