  Plot Summary

Veteran cop Joe Gavilan (Harrison Ford) and his young partner are put in charge of a multiply murder inquiry. Joe is a weary cop who tires to make ends meet by doing some real estate work on the side. His young partner KC (Josh Harnett) doesn’t know if he really wants to be a cop and prefers yoga classes, health food and acting. The mismatched pair need to solve the case and sort out their private lives, but to make matters worst Internal Affairs are on their backs…

Review

I had a bad feeling about this one. Not only were the reviews from America generally poor but also the idea of yet another story of mismatched cop partners didn’t sound very original.  This time weary veteran-cop Joe Gavilan (Harrison Ford) is paired up with young KC (Josh Hartnett) and as far as originality goes, the film hasn’t much to offer. The mismatched cop idea is “old-hat” and the plot is quite lame.

But the movie leans towards the comic and this is its saving grace, as it is actually quite funny. When I watched it, the audience really enjoyed it and there were plenty of laughs. In spite of the poor story the movie won me over, somewhat, and I found myself enjoying the show. Harrison Ford’s character was so tired and grumpy that you just have to laugh when everything seemed to go wrong for him. He genuinely looks worn-out and as the story progresses he is pushed closer to the edge.

I would never have put Harrison Ford in the comic role but he is actually quite funny in the movie. Ironically it is because he doesn’t fit the comic role that makes it funnier. In most scenes he looks quite miserable as he waits for the latest piece of bad luck to come his way.

Josh Hartnett plays rookie cop KC, Gavilan’s partner. Some critics said that there was no spark between himself and Harrison Ford but after all they are supposed to be mismatched cops not soul mates!

Bottom Line:  Don’t expect too much as far as the story goes but it does have plenty of laughs that make it worthwhile.
