Plot Summary: Max (Sigourney Weaver) and her daughter Page (Jennifer Love Hewitt) are both con artists working together to separate gullible wealthy men from their money!  Their routine is simple enough; Max marries some unsuspecting man and as soon as they are married Page seduces him so that Max can catch them in the act.  The lawyers are called in to arrange a separation settlement and since Max is the injured party she comes out on top.  Max and Page decide that they want to hit the jackpot and they go to Palm Beach to try to get their hands on some big money but things get complicated when their plans don’t go as expected…

Review: This comedy just isn’t funny enough!  For the most part the gags are predictable and you will see them coming long before they arrive.  There are a few gems of humour in the movie but not enough to save it from being anything more than a “two star”.

After a reasonable start the story becomes slow moving and is often silly.  The scams worked by Max and Page are obvious and have no element of cleverness.  This silliness doesn’t add any charm or humour but instead just makes the story ridiculous.  The movie is over two hours long and that is too long for a movie that is neither consistently funny nor interesting.  Both the story and the humour pick up again towards the end which might leave you with the feeling that it was all worth while!

Best element in the movie is the acting with the best gags spread evenly among the main cast.  Most of the characters are “over the top”.  Gene Hackman hammed it up as the ageing, chain-smoking, millionaire William B. Tensey and while his character is funny he becomes tiresome after a while.  Sigourney Weaver looks like she is enjoying herself and seems comfortable in this comic role.  She looks great and makes an excellent temptress as she moves in on her next victim!  Ray Liotta proves that he too is comfortable in comic roles.  Jennifer Love Hewitt and especially Jason Lee don't really get an opportunity to show what they are capable of.

As with a lot of movies it looks promising but doesn't quite deliver the goods.
