Girl Interrupted Main Cast:
Director: James Mangold Rating: 3 Stars - Worth a watch. Plot Summary: Set in the late 1960's Susanna Kaysen (Winona Ryder), is like many teenagers at 17, confused, insecure, uncertain about themselves and their futures. Following her attempted suicide Susanna is sent by her parents to Claymore, a private mental institute. While the film revolves around Susanna and her treatment it tells the story about life in the institute; the rules, the treatments, the prescribed drugs, the doctors and the other patients. Susanna makes friends with some of the other patients including Lisa (Angelina Jolie) an out of control disturbed charismatic patient and starts on a road of self-discovery. Review: This film is based on Susanna Kaysen's book about her two-year stay in a mental hospital. The fim can be a little slow and flat in parts but the fact that the film is based on a person's personal experience makes it overall interesting and thought provoking. Some lighter funnier scenes cleverly balance the darker subjects of suicide, depression, incest, and anorexia, in the film. Good performance from Winona Ryder but Angelina Jolie is excellent in the role of Lisa. After her ridiculous role in the Bone Collector where she strutted around grizzly murder scenes like a catwalk model it was great to see her give such a talented performance. Angelina won an Oscar for her performance in Girl Interrupted, which I thought she deserved. Finally some lasting thoughts from this film: Sanity or insanity can be a choice for some people. ......."sometimes we hurt the outside to try and kill what's wrong on the inside".......
