The Fast And The Furious Main Cast:
Director: Rob Cohen Rating: 1 Star - Not worth the time. Plot Summary: Brian (Paul Walker) is an undercover cop who is trying to infiltrate a gang who are using high-speed cars to rob trucks. Brian tries to win favour with Dominic (Vin Diesel), the leader of one of the gangs, by competing in an organised illegal street race. When Brian helps Dominic escape from the police after the race he is accepted by Dominic as one of the gang. Brian is under pressure by the police to get a result but if Dominic discovers that he is a cop he will be in danger. To make matter worse Brian is beginning to like his new friends and he is falling for Dominic’s sister (Michelle Rodriquez)… Review: The plot in this movie is very tired and well worn out. And if the silly unoriginal plot isn’t bad enough the lame characters and dialogue do nothing to help. The story is really only an excuse for the real purpose of the movie, which is to show fierce and frenzied car racing scenes. The street races involve sleek powerful customised cars racing for a quarter of a mile. These action scenes are exciting and well filmed. “Little-Boy-Racers” everywhere will love it. It is obvious that the target audience is the 17 to 25 year olds who like to burn rubber whenever possible! After one or two deafening races it’s all very predictable. Sometimes the ending of a movie can make up for some of the silliness that has proceeded it but unfortunately this is when this film is at it’s worse. The noise through out the movie is relentless and very distracting. When engines aren’t roaring, wheels are screeching and even when there isn’t a car in sight rock music takes over. (I must be getting old!) Vin Diesel isn’t bad as the dangerous charismatic gang leader Dominic but Paul Walker’s character is silly and clichéd. There is some good support from Michelle Rodriquez who plays Dominic’s sister. There’s a lot to be said for a quite drive in the country! Reviewed by Niall Quinn, PremierMovieReviews 2001
