Matthew McConaughey plays Tripp, who at the age of 35 still lives
with his parents. Like his friends, Ace and Demo, Tripp has no
intentions of changing his comfortable, carefree lifestyle. His
parents, Al (Terry Bradshaw) and Sue (Kathy Bates), have other ideas as
they want the house back for themselves. They recruit professional,
Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker), to intervene and give him the incentive he
needs to fly the nest.

Failure To Launch is guilty of failure to
entertain! It's a silly predictable romantic comedy with only a
few laughs. Relying on the farcical escapades of Tripp and his
mates the comedy isn't particularly sharp or witty. The lame
story just about holds these farcical episodes together. There
is nothing original about this movie and it follows a very safe
formula, just like hundreds of romantic comedies before it.
The dialogue is corny and the leads ham it up with
contrived characters, Tripp and Paula. Matthew McConaughey seems
to be there just to look good, while Sarah Jessica Parker lacked the
charm needed for this type of whimsical rom-com.
Tripp's and Paula's friends, played by; Justin
Bartha, Bradley Cooper, and Zooey Deschanel, are a little quirky and
make for more interesting and likeable characters. |
Bottom Line: With too few laughs and
predictable silly story Failure To Launch is only for the true rom-com
fan.
