Plot Summary: This film tells the true story of Erin Brockovich (Julia Roberts) an unemployed, struggling, single mother of three children.  following a car accident Erin brings an ussuccessful lawsuit and, now desperate, Erin begs her attorney Ed Masry (Albert Finney) to give her a job at his small law firm.   While carrying out her photocopying/filing duties she comes across medical receipts among real estate files and asks Ed can she investigate further.  This uncovers the fact that there are an unusually high number of cancer and tumours cases among people who live near a giant Electrical and Gas company.  This leads to the discovery of the illegal use of poisonous chemical by the company.

Review: Small law firm takes on giant company in the courts.  Nothing new in this story but then the film centres on the Erin Brockovich character more than the legal story itself.  Julia Roberts plays the character convincingly and the character created is credible with many character details.  The Brockovich character, straight talking, irrational temper, independent spirit, is initially funny and likeable.  a number of "one liners" help this along.  However, her "everyone's against me" and "I have it so hard" attitude becomes tiresome.  Before long, the character becomes irritating.

An opportunity was lost to add some suspense and climax by adding some court and verdict scenes and in the end the court's verdict was delivered with little or no impact.

Albert Finney was, like Julia Roberts, convincing and his role too was very credible.
