Plot Summary

Slim (Jennifer Lopez) meets her husband Mitch (Billy Campbell) in the Diner where she works. He is a kind, caring person but a few years later Slim discovers another side to her ‘loving’ husband when he starts to beat her. At first Slim doesn’t know what to do.  She cannot believe that she is in this position. This is the type of thing that happens to other women! She soon realises that she and her young daughter are in danger and asks her old friends at the Diner to help her run away…

Review

This drama/thriller has elements of Sleeping With The Enemy. It starts off promising but the story is too improbable and the characters too unbelievable that it doesn’t work as a drama or a thriller. Both of the main characters go through radical personality changes. First Mitch changes overnight, from loving husband to possessive wife beater and later in the movie Slim not only gets a name change but a new personality! It’s not only the characters that are flawed but the story itself is so silly in parts that there is just too much to forgive in this movie.

As a drama the issue of domestic violence isn’t explored in any great depth and in the end the film deteriorates into a mindless half-baked revenge action/thriller.

There are some good “he’s-behind-you-moments” during the movie that will make you jump and for the most part the movie will hold your interest.

With Jennifer Lopez as the main character the movie will undoubtedly attract attention. To be fair it is not the acting that lets this movie down and I’d say there are bigger and better performances to come from J-Lo.

The Bottom Line:  Starts off promising but has too many flaws to be believable. It would make a good TV movie but is only worth a trip to the cinema if you have nothing better to do.
