Director: Larry Guterman Rating: 2 STARS. ONLY IF YOU HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO Plot Summary: Professor Brody (Jeff Goldblum) is the stereo-type “mad scientist”, working on a formula that will prevent the allergic reaction that some people have to dogs. The cats know that if nobody is allergic to dogs then the dog will be mans best friend. The cats must put a stop to Professor Brody’s work as they have plans to take their rightful place as mans best friend. So unknown to the professor and his family he is protected by an elite group of secret agent dogs 24hrs a day! When Mrs. Brody brings home a new puppy he is told by the other dogs that he must protect the home from cat attacks and it isn’t long before the little puppy is called into action… Review: This film is similar to Babe in that it has 'speaking' animals cleverly filmed with the aid of animal trainers, animatronics and computer-generated graphics. But it lacks the charm and humour of Babe. There are only a few clever witty parts in the film and overall there is very little humour that will appeal to adults. The humour seems to be aimed at the 6 to 10 year old age group and older children might find the film boring. When I went to see the film a lot of people left before the end but none of these had children with them. The 8 year old in my group would never have let us leave early and he gave the film a 5 star rating! Five out of five with no hesitation! The human cast was greatly out numbered by the cast of cats and dogs and the humans were for the most part just filling in the gaps. They had very few funny parts and the talents of Jeff Goldblum and Elizabeth Perkins were totally under used.
