Rating: 3 Stars. Worth a watch.

Plot Summary: Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) is a systems engineer for FedEx who lives his life by the clock.  Not only in his work is punctuality crucial but also in his private life.  After getting a call from the company he leaves his girlfriend Kelly (Helen Hunt) behind to fly off on a "trouble shooting" trip.  The plane he is travelling in crashes into the sea.  Chuck finds himself washed up on a South Pacific uninhabited island and he starts his struggle for survival...

Review: If you're expecting a modern day Robinson Crusoe you might be disappointed.  While most of the film does concentrate on Chuck's survival on the island it dwells on his character and his state of mind and what keeps him going.  In this sense the film is more of a character development drama than an adventure film.  For much of the film you can almost feel the silence and isolation of a single person trapped on a tiny island.  It is excellent acting from Tom Hanks that will hold your interest through the silence and somewhat uneventful "island part" of the film.  The portrayal of Chuck's physical and character changes while trapped on the island is the most impressive element of the film.  Helen Hunt hadn't an awful lot to do in this one but nevertheless she played her role convincingly.

Lasting thoughts from this film: First of all I really have to make that dental appointment! (You'll know what I mean if you see the film!)

Secondly, the importance of time is a very obvious theme that runs through out the film.  There is punctuality, the passage of time and timing.  Most important is the message of "Let's not commit the sin of turning our backs on time."
