Director: Harold Ramis Rating: 2 Stars. Only if you have nothing better to do. Plot Summary: Elliot Richards (Brendan Fraser) is a goofy, lonely, single man who pushes himself onto his colleagues in the hope of making friends. He wants to make friends and be popular but instead he is irritating and annoying. Most of all he wants to date the lovely Alison Gardner (Frances O'Connor) who works in his office. Elliot is awkward and shy and is afraid to approach Alison. One evening Elliot meets a gorgeous woman (Elizabeth Hurley) who tells him she can give him whatever he wants. This gorgeous woman tells Elliot that she is the devil and gives him her card to prove it! Not surprisingly Elliot is sceptical until the devil convinces him that she can deliver on her promises. Elliot gets seven wishes. In return the devil gets his soul. The devil assures Elliot that he won't even miss it! It's like your appendix! Elliot soon learns that even when you get your wish it might not be what you expected or wanted... Review: This is a light-hearted comedy. It won't have you rolling around the floor in hysterics but it is amusing enough in a silly, inoffensive way. There are plenty of laughs as Ellliot finds that his wishes don't quite go to plan. With each wish we get a sketch in which Elliot finds himself in a new situation. These sequences dismember the film into different sketches. Some of the sequences are amusing but never hilarious while others are lame. Brendan Fraser is over-the-top doing the goofy Elliot but adapts well to his new characteristics after each new wish. Elizabeth Hurley as the devil is only naughty and lacks some real wickedness! Lasting thought from this film: Beware of gorgeous women in bars who promise you your every wish!
