B a n d i t s Main Cast:
Director: Barry Levinson Rating: 3 Stars - Worth a watch. Plot Summary: Joe (Bruce Willis) and Terry (Billy Bob Thornton) are bank robbers who are serving time in Oregon State Prison. They manage to break out and go on the run. Their plan is to escape to Mexico and open a club and restaurant but they need money and they resort to what they know best, robbing banks. Terry comes up with the idea that they take bank managers hostage the night before, sleep over at their houses and in the morning get them to open up the safes in the banks. This earns them the name of the “Sleepover Bandits”. All is going well and after a few robberies the money for Mexico is building up. Trouble arrives in the form of fiery redhead Kate Wheeler (Cate Blancehett)! Joe falls for Kate and Terry who, at first, is fearful of Kate can’t help falling for her charms too… Review: This humorous crime story has a kind of modern “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” feel about it. It doesn’t take itself to seriously and leans more towards comedy rather than drama or action. It starts off with a daring, if somewhat improbable, jailbreak and the two unlikely associates survive a hail of bullets and go on the run. As the story moves along at a steady pace the offbeat comedy element increases. The humour centres on the characters more than the situations that they find themselves in. Hot headed Joe and neurotic Terry make an odd couple and clever dialogue produces some crazy conversations between the two. Then Kate Wheeler who is emotionally upset (if not unhinged!) joins up with them and adds a romantic ingredient to the story. The story gets a little silly as it moves along and the far-fetched ending almost ruins the whole thing! Bruce Willis and Cate Blanchett are good but the best acting comes from Billy Bob Thornton. His hypochondriac paranoid character, Terry who has numerous phobias, gets the funniest lines and the best scenes are when he is having conversations with Joe about his health fears. Interestingly,
Bruce
Willis had two of his daughters do a cameo role in the movie.
They play the daughters of one of the bank managers. Reviewed by Niall Quinn, PremierMovieReviews 2002 MAINPAGE RECENT CINEMA RELEASES RECENT VIDEO RELEASES THE ARCHIVES |
