Review
If you haven’t already booked
your summer holidays this movie will have you running down to the nearest
travel agent to book your spot in the sun!
Palm trees, golden beaches, blue skies, clear blue sea and bikini
clad girls will have you thinking of destinations far from our
“temperate” climate. Hawaii certainly looks like an idyllic location.
The scenery might me perfect
but as far as the plot goes his movie has absolutely nothing new to offer.
The predictable, shallow plot has been told countless times, most
recently, although much better, in 8 Mile. Will Anne Marie make it against the odds? Will she overcome
adversity and have the courage to follow her dreams? I think we’ve been
here before! More than once!
But the movie does have
something to offer and that is stunning and exhilarating surfing sequences
where you feel you are actually out there surfing right in the centre of
the biggest waves imaginable. The
camera work is fantastic and if we got any closer we would have needed a
towel!
None of the cast really gets
the opportunity to shine in this movie but Kate Bosworth is quite likeable
in the role and it is easy to cheer her on when it comes to the
“Pipeline”, the big surfing competition.
The
Bottom Line: The surfing sequences are excellent and exciting but the
movie suffers irreparably because of the weak unoriginal storyline.
